What did you pack for your hubbies lunch today?
My grandfather (1907-1997) worked most of his adult life at the General Motors plant in KCMO. He used to come home so frustrated because people would actually STEAL the lunches my grandmother had packed for him, right out of his lunchbox. When they didnt take without asking, they would badger him to "trade" for her homemade sweets - lol.
He actually, very ceremoniously "passed down" his old black lunchbox & thermos to his only son when he retired. His son is getting ready to retire now (from the same place) and still carries the same lunchbox....though my aunt didnt ever pack lunches as renowned as grandmas. Grandmas secret.....everything was homemade.
Assuming your husband works away from home M-F/8-5, what did you send for his lunch today?
Taking cues in part from the Civil War Era (SOURCE: www.foodtimeline.org/foodpioneer.html#civilwar), today, my husband took........
12oz Tex/Mex Chicken Vegetable & Rice Soup (homemade)
4 oz raw Colby Cheese
3 slices of Bread & lots of Butter (both homemade)
2 organic Gala Apples (1 for lunch & 1 for later)
Tomorrow he is taking almost the same thing, but I made brownies today and am including grapes to replace one apple. He loves these simple things.
I think I want to aquire cloth napkins JUST for his lunches. I have a friend who would make them for me too (I dont sew). I bet I could trade home processed quail for the sewing. I will hit a local thrift store for used clothing that can be cut & serged into my new cotton napkins.
