well, sort of anyway. I have 7 two month old AGH PB cross, wild as freaking march hares, piglets - guessing live weight is in the 15-20 pound range. It was always my intention to put them in the freezer as roasters - that's not a cross I especially want to grow out - and the wildness of this bunch would stop me anyway. Well last Wednesday, they decided to go roaming. Out through the cattle panel, up the (99% dry) creek bed, under the water gate at the end of our property, across the road, around the back of the neighbor's house, and happily began to rototill her a brand new flower area (that she didn't want ) - made a MESS of her lovely grass in a strip about 30 feet long and 6 feet wide alongside the back of her house. The only good things are a) they DIDN'T get into her flower beds and b)it WAS the back of the house instead of right out in front!
And then promptly came right back home - so when I went out to do evening chores, there they all were in the barnyard, waiting for their dinner. I, of course found out about it well after dark, when the neighbors pulled up in my driveway!
Anyway, I enticed the little devils into a stall, promised the neighbors that we'd pay to have a landscaper repair the damage (next spring, since nothing would grow now anyway), and promised them a suckling pig - tomorrow - which is going to be butcher day for the little savages. I'm also going to get her a gift certificate to a local nursery (she doesn't know about that yet) to give her a head start on next year's flowers. They're really good neighbors, and super nice people - and they know that if our animals do ANY damage, or irritate (like the dogs sitting in our pasture, across the road from their front porch barking )them, we'll take full responsibility and take care of it as well.
DH will be home tomorrow - his job is to kill and bleed - mine is everything else. Should be a most interesting day..... I'm not at all sure how DH is going to get them shot - I'm probably going to have to cut a board to force them against the stall wall somehow - as I said, they're wild and very very quick. I had originally planned to scald and scrape - but in the interests of time, I'm just going to skin them out. Hopefully it won't take too long to get them all done.
