We have been using anti-fungal cream on the sore on Heart's udder per the vets request. It is not getting any better. Not getting any worse/bigger either. We have tried various things since it has been like this - noticed it when she freshened the 29th of Dec.
I can't seem to get a good picture of it but I will try to describe it and if you have any other suggestions on what I should try please help.
In the space in front/between her front quarters, there is a square patch about 2 inches square that is hairless and occasionally bleeding. It is smooth, not scabbed over but pink and irritated looking. It only seems to be wet and bleeding when she has been licking it, it is otherwise dry but usually cracked down the middle. It does not bother her to have me touch it.
Things I have tried:
Anti-fungals
Anti-bacterials
Leaving it dry
The vet has us try the anti-bacterial for a couple of weeks, then if it hadn't gotten better to call him. In the mean time: dad died, baby born, etc...So it was more that 2 weeks but we had him out and then had us do the anti-fungal for 4 weeks - still no change. When we had him out he said that if the anti-fungal didn't work, he can put her out and freeze the skin, killing it. Kind of like you would get a wart done with the liquid nitrogen stuff.
I don't know if that will help either but I don't want to just let it go on. She is such a wonderful cow. He also said that he could cut out that portion of skin and sew the rest together. That to me sounds a little too invasive for that area but we are willing to have it frozen first, hoping that will be the end of it.
