Well I should start from the beginning...
about 3-4 weeks ago a local health food store started offering oldish veggies for a good discount. I bought some root veggies for the horses & Spring. These were turnips and beets. I fed them to Spring after the p.m milking 5:30ish.
I week or two later one of my milk cliets asked me about the flavor of the milk and I had not noticed anything. I mentioned her jars as they are not always super clean ( I have sent notes home with the jars in the past) And told her if she noticed it again we'd work it out.
Then another clent mentions it but we talk more and she discribed it as " a bitter after taste" We discussed her jars which she steams and dries. While I slept ( sometimes i do my best thinking while I sleep it dawned on me "DAH" it was most likely the turnips because this woman would get the mornings milk.
I stopped feeding the oldish veggies and started tasting EVERY milking while warm, while bottling. It has tasted fine every time.
Both clients have called me to say how much better it is.
Now during this time i phoned a couple of the other clients who got milk around that time and asked if every thing had been alright and every one had been.
Now 2 weeks later one of those clients a "oops i forgot it was my pick up day or oops I'm sorry, i forgot to drop off my jars for you to fill, can you fill some of yours?" milk clients. She says she tastes something bitter now..... she gets 1 gallon on Friday and she mentioned it first on this past Monday or Tuesday. I tasted that milk and it tasted fine. She is going to "skip this week and take a break" which is fine as I don't have enough for US!
What should I do? I keep everything spotless, I haven't changed anything in her diet . WE don't notice it, nor has anyone else mentioned it, actually the opposite.
It is like I planted "the seed" and now SHE has funny tasting milk
I feed organic grain 2 lbs a day only and the same hay she's been eatting for a few months.
Suggestions??
I tell DH maybe it would be alot easier to get a pig or two ( as a pet) for the extra milk instead of dealing with some people....
Help!
