Bees and dumb people on FB

Ok, I'm just irritated today, so ignore me if you want. LOL

Tuesday I had the day off. About noon, DH comes to the door and tells me "You have a swarm out here." They were boiling out of one of the hives (HUGE swarm) and landing so perfectly on a low hanging branch. I assembled enough stuff to catch them, hived them and fed them some syrup and all was lovely.

We really don't need anymore hives, in fact a couple don't have proper tops or bottoms because I haven't had time to advertise them. So I decide to use DH's FB page (with his permission) and get on our beekeeper organization FB page and made a post that I had too many bees, needed to sell some bees with or without boxes esp. since we just caught a swarm today. I had a couple people say they were interested in a post, but could not call the phone number I had posted. So then I send them a message (or hoped I did - I don't have a FB page and stumbled around a bit). Anyway I told them they were hived with a large batch of syrup. I wanted $125 for bees and any frames they had built on if they traded me equal frames, OR I would sell all 10 frames with bees for $140. No box/nothing else included.

So one guy replies he would give me $50 for them. That was this morning. I told him they were worth at least what a package cost, (which last I knew in this area it was $110-125.) Then tonight he had replied that he bought a pkg. for $75, he could buy a nuc for $140 and I was trying to screw people and he wasn't going to be one of them.   Wow, ok.

Meanwhile, another lady was willing to buy them and would come get them on Saturday. DH told me not to reply to him (because I was on his FB page) LOL He KNEW I was in a bad mood.
I replied "Don't know where you got a package for $75, but good for you. That's the beauty of a free country, you can buy or you can pass. No need to be rude."

What I really should have said, had I not been on DH's page, "Rats, you got me. I had this great bee scam going. Was working on buying my second home in Switzerland and now I'm busted. I shouldn't have tried to pull one over on someone as smart as you."

Anybody have any questions about why I'm not on SlamBook Facebook?!

I never cease to amaze me that people who would in all probability be nice to your face feel it acceptable to be rude in print.
I think your response was very self controlled.

I hope you got a real buyer for the bees. According to the prices I have seen around here, you were offering a nice deal.

I hear you about Facebook. I, personally, don't have FB. Tried it, felt too weird and really, really cannot understand why some people put up selfie after selfie where they are just smiling or trying to look...err...seductive??, while standing in what is obviously their bathroom?? What are FB "friends" supposed to say in response to these selfies? Especially when new ones are posted every day? It was interesting to see posts where something was actually being accomplished or where kids or animals were doing something cute, but the selfie thing just feels weird.

Full disclosure, however, is that I am not totally FB free. My pen name has "her" own page to market my content writing services and books, but I set it up so she "lives" in another state... and I don't allow her to friend very many people.

Thank you, I thought the deal was very fair.

And yes, I found a nice home for them, they left half an hour ago. I made 2 new beekeeper friends, she was extremely happy to get them, thanked me multiple times.
and for the $125 I sent her off with all the frames/bees and a dozen eggs.
So there, rude person. LOLOL

Now, after my breakfast/brunch, I'm off to check my other splits and see how many more I can sell.

There's a couple of bee-keepng groups here locally, maybe you could google beekeeper with your location and find more like-minded people and eliminate the need the jerks.

Oh, I forgot to mention, this was on the FB page of the beekeeping group we belong to. Nothing against the nice people, just the few bad apples in the bunch.

We checked our splits. One is doing well, one needs a queen. We'll bring them home tonight where I can work with them easier.

We just had returned from that and DH says, "There's another swarm." So we put those back in the box I just emptied. Guess my swarm scam is up and running again.

I have witnessed a number of swarms but only captured one. It was definitely a high point in my life.

margiejd If you'd bring me a brood box, lid and bottom board, I'd be happy to hive another swarm for you if we have one. Then you can get the good neighbor/KFC/polite person discount! Call me.

I thought when I read that "this is a term I'm going to have to adopt"

My DH has just gotten into bees, I wish you were closer.
