Tariq (He desperately needs a new name) was at a feedlot in WA. He was due to ship to Canada for slaughter if someone didn't take him. I, being the sucker that I am, offered to give him a home. It was a 4.5 hour drive up there, 40 minutes there, and a 6 hour drive back. My mom, Sabrina and I all went. It was a gorgeous day. Sabrina hasn't been up through the Gorge since she was 4- so it was fun showing her such a different part of Oregon. I had never been to that part of Washington (Yakima area) I had only ever been on the west coast, or the far eastern side; we usually cross over at Hermiston. It was a really pretty part of Washington.
When Sabrina walked into the pen with the halter, Tariq walked right up to her. She put the halter on, and he rested his forehead against her chest. It took about 5 minutes to convince him that he did want to get into the trailer, but then he loaded into and out of the trailer really easily. We kept pulling over to check on him and let his rest a bit. When we opened the door by his head he would look out the window- he was curious but not nervous. When we got home he followed Sarbina around the pasture! He had a pretty snotty nose. It was gross. But that is gone now. (Don't worry- he's in a pasture where he is no where near our other animals) He picks up his feet, leads really well- someone obviously has loved him at some point. He acted like he didn't really know what an apple was, but now he loves them. He also didn't know that a carrot was edible. He still isn't sure about those. He really doesn't like horse treats. He has been saddled and ridden by an assessor at the feedlot. The guy decided that he was stubborn and spoiled. We'll see. He is so thin (starving) he was really low energy and even dragged his feet when he walked. The guy that rode him was far too big, and the horse moved like it was really uncomfortable. He's much better now.
The feedlot said he was 15 hands. I am going to go with 14.1. (I'll post the picture that THEY posted of his height. I haven't measured him yet) The lot also said he's 5-7 years old. I'll also post a picture of his teeth. The feedlot said that he's quarter horse, or QH/Andelusian. I'm not really seeing anything other than Arab. He has huge platter-feet.
They look like they are actually in pretty good shape, but are really in need of a trim. Addy needs her hooves done again as well- So I guess I am calling the farrier. I think his teeth need to be checked as well- possibly floated.
Any opinions on breed?
Any suggestions for names?

He's really hard to get pictures of because he'd rather be snuggling in your lap. I didn't actually take these pictures- I can't find our camera...

I have a few more pictures, but Tinypic isn't working right.
