This morning when I went into the barn I found our milk cow Butter had slipped her tie and ate about 20 to 30 lbs of rolled oats.
She wasn't acting real funny or anything so I called the vet to give them a heads up and also ask what else to watch for. You could tell she didn't feel right and didn't eally want to eat any hay but did eat a flake.
Milked her and checked on her through out the day, She seemed fine and acting nomally with the exception of not really wanting to eat until this evening.
When we went out again to do chores she was hanging her head and just about fell over when I did my normal smack on her hip so she sets her feet for milking. of which she only gave 1 quart of milk instead of over a gallon.
Immediately called the vet as this just wasn't in my mind good. The vet came out gave her 3 pills, a shot of vitamin B, steroide shot and something else to keep her rumen turning, also helped her get things moving from behind.
We had her AI'd about 2 weeks ago, so now with the stess of this she may end up slipping that if it did take, and now also have to worry about her possibly getting mastitis.
This on top of the horse having a really bad case of colic about 3 weeks ago with the vets having to tube her 3 days in a row and her just now really acting like herself again,
and finding out yesterday that our 20 month old heifer that we've had since birth (who was tubed and said to be breedable) is a freemartin, she's got all the parts, but nothing is hooked up.
I just want to crawl back into bed and pretend that none of this had happened.
