I am concerned about a lump on the left side sort of under Mona's jaw. It is about the size of 1/2 a tennis ball and just sort of slowly appeared over the past week. It is firm and dosn't seem to bother her if I touch it, it sticks out right where her halter goes around it so there isn't any pressure on it so I have left her halter on. (easier for me to lead her when I need to)
When I first noticed it I thought it may be that she needed to be wormed (I read that it was a sign of anemia caused by worms possibly) and wormed her with safeguard pellets..which she hated and it took her several days to trust her regular alfalfa pellets and eat them like normal again. She forgot now and eats with relish and seems fine other wise...She had lost some weight and seemed thin earlier in her lactation (she calved on May 19th..her second freshening..she is 3 years old now) but has put some weight back on now. She is still giving 3 to 4 gallons a day on OAD milking and such a perfect cow that I worry about that lump. It dosn't seem to be going down. We don't have a vet who is big on coming out to see cows here locally, which is a pain. Same problem when I had my goats too. The guy who does my AI breeding can check her, but he may not know what to do. I plan to call him, just to get an opinion since he knows more about cows that I do, but just wondering if you all have any ideas. If she seemed sick I would be more worried I guess. She seems fine and healthy and bright eyed and eats fine and romps with her sheep and goat friends, but just has that lump.
I am watching her close for signs of heat this week too, hoping her breeding by AI 21 days ago took. No sign so I think we may be good...but I am still watching..she is tricky..haha
Thanks in advance..I trust you guy's opinions.
