Well like I said before Bella calved Sunday evening. We waited 12 hrs to milk her. Calf is on her all the time. She was very engorged ( edema). I use the Mas D tec, its an electric detector, that gives an instant reading on a scale 1-10, for Jerseys 1-3 is safe, 3 would be getting suspicious, anything higher is considered sub clinical mastitis. So we have quarter w/ high readings, and this morning when I strained I did have chunks.
Now I have dealt w/ mastitis in my other cow, but it was mid lactation, not righ after calving. I am wondering, if we treat this any different? Also my other cow did not have a calf on her, Bella does. So I am wondering since she has a calf on her, and since I also milk her twice a day, should I just take a wait and see approach, see if it clears on its own?
Please dont tell me I need to milk her more than 2 times a day, life it nearly killing me right now, lots of things going wrong (ie. surge doesnt fit bella so we milk 2 teats a time, delaval pulsator not working..waiting for new one to arrive, frozen water, electricicty via extension cords keeps tripping gfi and circuit breakers...you get the idea now, why I cringe at the thought of milking more times a day!)
Being I have never gone through this calving process, and edema, and mastitis with edema, I just feel like I better ask what to do about it.
Also because "they" say not to totally milk out the first 48 hrs, because of MF, we didnt strip, especially since calf is with her. But we did still get 2 gal each milking off her. We are not dipping her teats because she is w/ calf.
Ok, I'll shut up now, your turn!
