Two Questions here.
Fiolka was AI'd Mon evening. I found Jake loose in the barn @ 6:30 this morning (Wednesday). I always peek before walking in. His new collar held so the extra holes I punched into it to make it a bit tighter when he slipped it off two weeks ago worked.
I use a "Quick Link" to connect his collar to the chain which ties him to a post in the barn. Unfortunately, due to his moving about the Quick Link gets loose, unscrews and eventually opens. The other day (before her heat) he was very affectionate and let me tighten it. Naturally, he wouldn't let me do so yesterday although he handled OK in other respects. The link was loose all day yesterday and opened enough for him to get off the chain over night.
QUESTION # 1:
Does anyone have suggestions for fastening his collar to the chain more securely? The only thing I can think of is to take a pair or pliers and REALLY tighten that "quick link". I went to the hardware store yesterday afternoon seeking an alternative to the "quick link" but found none that might be secure enough.
The only time I feel uncomfortable around him is when Fiolka is in heat. Thank God this happens only once a year for me. I am NOT going into that barn with him loose and her coming off a heat. Either this afternoon, or tomorrow morning I will have to catch him close enough to the door so I can stick a syringe through an open crack in the door into his rump reaching through the barn door (as I've done before) and tranquilize him in order to re-attach him to his chain which is hanging in its place on the far wall. Meanwhile, I'll need to ask the vet yet again for a replacement of the emergency dose of tranquilizer he gave me .
Question # 2:
While Fiolka was AI'd Mon evening & the tech thought her cervix felt as tight as when in full heat, she seemed to be a bit more interested in Jake yesterday (Tues). Wouldn't that have gone away if the AI had taken?
Thanks & Best Regards,
