and she's not doing well at all.
So after I milk in the mornings, I let the girls graze on the lawn while I finish up with cleaning the milker and stuff. Both girls are tethered. This morning, Emmy apparently broke her tether and went over to bother Lily. Emmy is definitely the boss cow as she outweighs Lily by at least 300 lbs and she has horns. Lily does not. So somehow, Emmy got Lily cornered and wrapped around a post and proceeded to do God knows what to her. When I found them, it was about an hour after I put them out so it couldn't have been any longer than that. Lily was standing with her neck stretched out because the tether was attached to her collar and around the post. We chased Emmy off and unhooked Lily and she just stood in the same spot without moving, eyes closed. I forced her to walk away from the post a bit, but she continued to just stand with her head down and eyes closed. I could see no external injuries at the time. I thought I'd just leave her to get herself together and we brought her some molasses water to see if she would drink, but no. After a while she started to move around, very unsteady and mostly moving backwards and in circles a bit. 10 to 15 minutes later, she opened her eyes and started to walk like she knew where she wanted to go. She was still a bit unsteady, but otherwise she looked a bit better to me. But she walked towards the pasture fence and right into it as if she couldn't even see it. It's a 5 strand electric with a 15 joule charger so it gives a serious zap. She got herself tangled before I could get to her or turn it off and then proceed to run right through it to the other side of the paddock into that wire. I managed to have the fence off at that point so she didn't get zapped there and actually stopped. I got to her and tried to get her to walk with me, but she was a bit panicked and tried to run but kept going down on her knees and getting back up. Poor girl is so traumatized.
After I let her settle down she again just stood in the same spot with her head down and eyes closed while I fixed the fence. Sometimes wobbling backwards and turning circles. After a good half hour, I managed to get her to walk with me up to the barn, but it is as if she can't see anything. She started walking towards the bucket of molasses water ion the way and I thought "Oh good, she wants a drink." but she walked straight into it as if it won't even there. Same thing with trees and the barn. She's in a stall now so she can't bust through anything and is safe. I had to leave for about a half an hour and when I got bak and checked on her, she is showing some significant swelling around her face. If you look at her straight on, it looks like she had cud in both sides of her mouth and when I try to feel it, it's very hard. She also appears to have swelling under her lower jaws/neck area and she just started drooling. She still looks out of it and is bumping into things, but there does not look like there is any trauma or swelling to the eyes themselves. And she is grinding her teeth so I know she's in pain.
I have some pics I'll upload in a minute.
I have a call into the vet, but what else can I do or should I be asking when they get back to me?
