Well, y'all said you would help me shop...So here I am, hat in hand (ok, I'm in my pajamas with no hat, but it makes for a good tale) asking for help...The one thing I do know about cows, is how much I don't know about cows...but luckily I have all you fine folks who could write a book on cows (and I think one of you did) so I'm asking y'all...kinda like taking a car you're interested in buying to a mechanic you trust...I'm not saying I don't trust this lady, but I would like more experienced eyes to give it a gander.
So here's the story...I was researching the minis...a member from here gave me a number of a person about minis...so I called them...and they gave me a number to another person who had minis....so I call that person and they gave me two more numbers of other people to call...but wait...just when you thought it couldn't get more confusing...
So I didn't call other last two people...not that my ardor was diminished, but because I was thinking the hunt for minis had me chasing my tail and paused to reassess...but when I was talking to that last person, she mentioned she had a cute little mini heifer on her place **BUT** there was already a waiting list of two people for it...I jokingly told her to send it to me anyway and tell those other two peeps to pound sand...I laughed...she laughed...the cows in the field laughed and milk came out everyone's noses, which was weird cause I hadn't even been drinking milk (not really, but had you goin there for a minute).
So anyway, along comes today...Saturday the 13th...Not quite Friday the 13th, but apparently close enough...and exactly one day after I celebrated the one year anniversary of my 39th birthday...My phone rings...an ominous ring (not really, but it should have been)...and it was the lady...with the heifer...guess what she told me...I bet you can...yep, the other two on the list fell through for various reason so guess who she remembered and called...
Well by now y'all know I'm long winded so I'll just get to the point...They say a pic is worth a thousand words so here's 5k worth of words:
Heifer:
Dam (on the left):
Sire:
Here's the info she provided me:
Attached are pictures of Eden that I took this morning, and a picture of her dam (Angel on the left) and her sire, Ajax.
In color I believe Eden will be black and white like her sire except with MUCH less black on her. All that is currently brown will probably turn black and she’ll have faint black spots all over her body with a concentration of spots on her face, ears, and lower legs.
As far as conformation goes, I’d expect her to look like her dam, Angel. She’ll have long legs (probably measuring 46” tall at the hip at maturity) and a nice tight body with very strong good feet. Her dam doesn’t need her feet trimmed and I don’t believe Eden will either. Eden will have a lovely short head with wide-set eyes and she is the funniest and liveliest heifer we’ve ever had. She LOVES people, much more than cows, and is just delightful (but then Eden means delightful).
Here is Eden’s breed pedigree – she will be registered with American Miniature Jersey Association (AMJA):
78.125% mini Jersey
12.5% standard Jersey
6.25% Galloway
3.125% Dexter
She has been DNA tested to prove parentage and she is Dexter chondro negative. She will be weaned by October 11th and could go to a new home anytime after that.
Let me know what you think and what additional information you may want.
