I can't just leave them, but man- really? Why is it always me? I swear, none of my neighbors ever find the strays. It's always me.
I have been stuck with this dog for 2 weeks now- much to the frustration of our other 'former stray' dog, and the 'previously abandoned' cat. They both have space issues, and Sadie (the dog) has food issues stemming from their time on the streets. Things aren't working out well for all of us right now. This girl was also obviously dumped. Someone didn't seem to want the responsibility of dealing with an ailing dog. My guess is that it was Grandma's dog, and Grandma recently passed away and no one wanted the little thing.
This little girl is a small, elderly dog. I think. She seems old. She seems to be partially blind, partially deaf, and somewhat crippled up. She sees well enough, and hears well enough to stay out of trouble. And she gets around fine, as long as you aren't in a hurry and there are no stairs. (which is a problem here) She's short- about Poodle height, but much longer. And, as skinny as she is, I bet she weighs at least 15 pounds!
I am trying to find a no-kill rescue, or a friend to take this little girl. She's super sweet. Is great with kids, other dogs, cats, and chickens. I can't take her to the Humane Society-
BUT, until then. I also can't afford to take her to the vet. We have already basically paid their yearly salaries ourselves this year! (It's been a rough year) I am wondering if there are any natural remedies for some of her ailments. (though, I can't afford much in that area either) I think I need MSM for her. I am 99% sure she is diabetic. She has almost all of the symptoms that my grandpa's dog had; she drinks a lot, lethargic, when she pees- it's a huge puddle, it doesn't smell quite normal. Though it isn't sticky like my grandpa's dog's pee was. (he peed everywhere) Is there anything I can do naturally for a diabetic dog? Especially one that hasn't yet been diagnosed? She also has a raging ear infection. I have been treating it with Otomax. Her teeth aren't good, but she eats dry dog food fine. But she seems to have dry mouth. Her hair is thin. Her front feet seem to hurt, though not too bad- she walks, but doesn't like them to be touched. I can't find anything wrong with them.
Any and all advice is greatly appreciated.
