summerwind.. or summer.. is blind in the right eye.. this mare is in trouble all the time it seems lol.. first she tore her right knee open.. tripped in a muskrat hole.. then tried to get out of a stall same time as another horse.. and tore her upper arm open.. she healed well from both.. then she hurt her ankle last year.. and at same time when i was checking her over to make sure it was not worse i noticed her head.. it looked like she wacked her head over her eye? at the time her eye was slightly cloudy.. she healed up well on the ankle.. all this on the front right leg lol..
then after trimming mouses feet (rescue mare farrier wont touch because she cant stand on only 3 feet.. injured stifle)
i get summer in the pen to look her over.. i notice her eye looks slightly sunk in.. or she has scar tissue around the rim making it look deeper.. it sort of looks how a weepy fly bothers eye would look..her eye still has a film sort of on it.. i looked and saw where i think the cornea would be.. and at the end of the iris? a white dot of scar tissue.. i wonder if she detached her retina in the fall? i did many of the eye tests.. waving hand on the good eye.. got reaction on bad eye nothing. moved finger towards eye on left side avoiding the wisker hairs.. reaction. on right side no reaction i actally ended up touching her eyeball. she gets along well in the pasture with the other horses.. does not act like she is blind. no wierd tilt of the head.. it was sunny so i wonder since the irises were closing sort of because of the sunlight.. maybe she is partially blind.. and can see when the sunlight is not in her eyes.. or bright lights close up the iris?. that is a possibility im going to have to try out when it gets darker and i can catch her for it lol.. i will be starting her under saddle this year.. i know of many one eyed wonders.. and a couple all blind horses that do well on trail. and i cant really beat myself up over this as the eye injury would not have been fixable without bucco bucks.. and major intervention i am sure..
