This is Purdy, she is just over 2 yrs and due for her first calf the end of July. I know that most people here aren't fond of Holstiens but she is what I was given to work with. I will be raising calves with her milk in return for household milk and a cut of the calves, her owner provides the milk cow all calves milking machiene (as he is not physically able to hand milk if I need a replacement for a milking) and all feed, I provide labor and land. Purdy is from a comercial organic dairy here in western Oregon, her dam was one of the dairyman's high producers but Purdy was a bull twin. She is bred for sure, preg test by a vet 6 weeks ago. I would like to know what people think of her conformation and how concerned should I be that she has only a tiny bit of udder at this point and a few rolls of skin. I could not get any rear view pics of her as she is not taming well and as you can see in the pics she has allot of room to get away. We will be putting a smaller pen inside her field this week to use as a catch pen. Also any tips on taming? Purdy was not hand raised and is around 56" tall, she is wearing a standard horse halter to give you an idea of how big she is.
I miss the jerseys I milked in Australia. A beautiful reg Jersey herd 90 milking head in a very old 7 swingover herringbone milking parlor.(for those who don't know what this means I didn't before I was working there.) I was in Australia on a work experience exchange, 6 months milking cows.
Wonderful life!
