I was going to post this on the other thread, but then decided that it deserved it's own place. What a day! Julie has no idea how much I've been cussing at her, and she deserved every bit of it.
Went out bright and early this morning to bring her and Stewy in from the brush. Looked everywhere, and couldn't find her anywhere. Sometime during the night she hid him. We looked for over 3 hours and couldn't find her anywhere! Yesterday when I would call her she would answer back to me. Not this morning though. She didn't want to be found and she made sure that she wasn't. Finally I had to get ready for school so I had to quit. Dave was home today and said he'd keep an eye out for her. She finally came out about 12:30. I guess she was thirsty or something. Anyway, Dave followed her back into the brush. He didn't bother them and just left her for the time being so I could help him get them out. At least we had a location for them but I had visions of her moving again, just to be mean. I guess I should explain, I don't just have brush right now, I also have a swamp back there so getting around is really difficult at best. So, on top of everything else, Julie made sure that she and Stewy were in the "only" dry spot available, completely surrounded by a muddy bog....stupid cow!
Anyway, I finally got home and we went out to get them. Finding them was easy. Julie let me get a halter on her and actually let me start to lead her out of there. Then she remembered that Dave was with Stewy, and all bets were off. She started playing "statue cow" and she wasn't going to budge for anything. Dave had Stewy, but because of the mud, and the difficulty walking in it he couldn't carry him out very easily. Finally Dave put a rope around Stewy and a nose band over his nose and he got his first lesson in leading. But it was more a case of laying down and playing dead. Julie was doing pretty good at this point, but she was concerned and kept trying to turn around which made it that much more difficult for me to keep my footing in the mud. Finally we got out of it, and made it to the barn, but not without a few more incidences of Stewy playing dead, and Julie taking me in a circle to see where he was.
These were taken a few minutes after we got them in.
I'm going to leave them alone for a couple hours and then bring her out for milking. It's going to be the first time, so I'll be sure to let you know how it goes... ;D
