After reading a few of the recent posts it got me thinking about how we KFC people choose bulls when it's AI time. I have a small herd growing and I have absolutely no idea how to read a bull's proof sheet (I think that is what you call it) and also I don't know how to look at/judge my cow's conformation in order to pick bulls correctly. I am due to start AIing in late May so I need to get on the ball and start learning. I know there are board members that could pass along great insight in this area. I am going to post pictures of the cows who will be bred and I am open for conformation critiques and suggestions on bulls. Also I only have one man in the area (60 miles away) who will AI for me because I have such a small herd (15) and he ONLY uses Genex. I have tried to bribe him with extra money to order and or keep other straws for me and so far he isn't interested. Bummer. Some background info on my herd is they are all grass/hay year round (I was really hoping for NZ straws ) and there are several of them that I don't have any info on there breeding. I know my AI guy has Manhattan, Alf and Ringo on hand and will order others in groups of 5 from Genex. Cindy if you are out there I know you have had a unfortunate experience with Manhattan that I would like to here more about as you learn more (FYI Cindy owns the mother of my one and only Topkick daughter who I was hoping down the road to keep a herd bull out of and we use the same AI guy)
Ok so I will post pictures later to add to this. Does anyone know if it is still possible to get straws from Topkick?
