We finally got the rest of the pasture fencing inspected and fortified where necessary, so this morning, I let Bandit out of her corral for the first time since she went in there three weeks ago. She was kind of hesitant at first, then once she was out, off she went! She explored the barn, the large corral, and the entire pasture. The mares were a little nasty to her at first, but after she quit running around like a total maniac, they left her alone. The three of them have spent all afternoon out grazing.
I've been out there several times and Bandit comes almost every time I call her, and if she doesn't come to me, she at least waits while I walk up to her. I took her brush out there and gave her a thorough brushing, both sides, and right down to her feet, and she stood there and let me do it. Later I had Rich help me (just in case) get her back in her corral, using the can of pellets, and she went right in and settled down, but I let her out again in a few minutes. I think I'll put her in there every night, just so she gets in the habit of going in somewhere at night, and also she'll be able to have hay/alfalfa in there undisturbed, too.
Anyway, I took a bunch of pictures of her first day out and I thought I'd share them:
It took several hours of running around, then grazing, but finally she decided to lie down and rest and chew her cud. Of course, when she saw me coming, she got up and came to see if I had any treats! LOL!
Also, if you notice in the 3rd and 4th pictures, where she's coming, then going, she sticks out more on her right side than her left. I've been noticing this for a while, but I thought it was because she was standing hipshot, with her weight on her left rear leg. Now that I see her running straight toward and straight away, she still bulges more on the right. What is that? That can't be a calf showing yet, can it? She's only just barely 4 months pregnant.
