What a weird day yesterday was! So I go out back to check the piggies mud holes, it was over 100 degrees at about 2pm yesterday and I look over by the fence and see a baby covered in mud. I'm like Oh NO! because Louise is lay almost totally in a giant mud bog that she has made. I go recover the baby and take her over to Louise and she wants nothing to do with it! I send it to the house and start to deal with Louise. Thankfully we have not completely torn down the old pens because my new pig house is no where ready. I get her cleaned off and cooled down all the while seeing that she is NOT in labor! This doesn't look good. All day I sit with this silly pig and Nothing! Fed the baby some cow colostrum because Louise wont take her. I call my pig expert and get some oxy from my vet. Okay, I'm going in! Nothing. I know she has more than one baby, I can see them moving but no labor.
My hubby looks down and says Maybe it belongs to Thelma. I asked how it got through the fence? He looks at me and with a funny look on his face says that maybe she didn't want it either and stood up and shot it through to the other side! Ha Ha. So it's starting to get dark, about 9pm and I notice that Louise is nesting. I figured okay, and prepared myself to deliver a bunch of dead babies.
Low and behold that was not the case. When she went into full labor, the first one was dead and every one after that was ALIVE! All told she had 14 and only the one dead one. I was so HAPPY! This morning? Mommy and all 13 babies are alive and well. Did I forget to mention, it wasn't until after 1 this morning that she was done? We are both still exhausted! Pictures later if I can figure how to load them.........
