Well let first say we were not suppose to have this girl. Pinkie was from the last bunch born and was sold to a lady that did not want her sent to the freezer. Ok I keep her and this woman says she is looking for a boar to breed her. What do I do? I tell her that I could let my LB boar breed her so she doesn't have to purchase and keep a boar (I know I am a sucker).
Pinkie gets breed and I try and try and try to get ahold of this lady, nada, nothing, not a word from her. Now I have a limited amount of room for my pigs but I think, well she is breed to a LB which don't have huge litters I thought and she is a first timer so I will just deal with a few extras piglets.
Last night I noticed she looked like she was getting closer and we had a ugly storm coming so I decided to put her in the cattle trailer. Storm hits us really bad last night. I go out to milk this morning and do all my chores. Well I check on pinkie and give her some milk, she is fine. I get all the way to my back porch and I hear a squeal. I run my big butt all the way back out there and she has one already born and the next one on the way! I figure well I will stay out there with her (no coffee in me yet cause I figured it would be pretty quick) and then get my coffee and molasses water for her.
Well 5 hours AND 17 PIGLETS LATER (yes 17!!) she is done!!!!! (haha)
Three were born dead (breech and I had to help her get them out) and one she laid on
I don't know who is more exhausted, me or pinkie!
