My daisy has gained quite a little weight and is no longer skinny.
I dried her up early in Nov. She now has 2 ribs showing Score of 4?
My husband is feeding her right now, and ive been trying to convince him that she shouldnt get any heavier. He thinks she can handle a little more weight for calving,,, (He raises Angus cows)
What condition should she be in before calving. she is getting some Hay, silage mix in her ration with a couple of other cows with her,, when they get moved out i can control what she is eating better (More green alfalfa hay and less of the silage mix. Im suspicious that she may be a high carb girl(Dont know about her past,, she was 9 when i got her.) as she has gained well , other wise maybe she was a bit in ketosis last yr. I had fed her plenty of hay, and some sweet feed i got at orshelyns when i milked her. If i get to keep her this summer i hope to be able to manage her weight better, and i know what much more than i did last yr. My husband is wanting to find another younger cow. Im sure attatched to the on e i got though,, and wondering if she needs another chance. We would have to see how she does with mastitis though,, I was suspisious that she was fighting a clinical mastitis before,, by the time i did dry her off she did have mastitis in one quarter for sure,, i did use Tomarro on her. Weather that was enough to do the trick i dont know. May have some trouble when she freshens. but she will have a calf on her.
At the time i dried her up i was not expecting to keep her this yr.
She is due to Calve May 12 or end of June I hope.
