I have a dorper who doesn't want to eat ...
She's usually the first into the tubs, but can't be bothered today. Has slept away from the flock for the last two nights. She's hollow in the belly, I can't hear any rumen sounds, but is not giving a pain reaction when I push on her abdomen.
She's pooping and peeing, though she did stay in the peeing stance for a while after finishing, but that might be lack of energy. She's with the old farts at the tail end of the flock when moving instead of the front, has droopy ears, sad eyes and looks miserable. She also didn't have any pleasure reaction when I scratched her neck and chest, she just put up with it.
Her lambs went to a new home three weeks ago, checked her udder and it's soft and normal temp. No scouring, no joint pain, no vaginal discharge. A little snotty, but so is the rest of the herd. Not breathing heavily or raspy.
Calling the vet today, any suggestions ?
UPDATE 1 8:30am : I called the vet as soon as they opened, but the one vet on duty is two hours away in another town. The receptionist will ring him and find out when he can come and see us. The good thing is that he's our regular vet and knows the flock. He does most of our work on his way past as he goes home for the night.
Hopefully I am right in thinking she's not going to pass away today ... I'm stuck at work and can't monitor her, but she looked miserable but not critical this morning.
UPDATE 2 6:00pm : He's still stuck in the other town, but had me pick up some Ceton liquid (Propylene glycol 892 mg/mL, choline chloride 75 mg/mL, cobalt chloride 0.75 mg/mL.) It's a "ketosis and pregnancy toxaemia treatment" according to the label.
So he suspects ketosis I'd say. I didn't get to talk to him, the receptionist passed on the message. He also wanted me to text him her temperature, which is 38.8C. I think that's high.
She was really unhappy about the Ceton, I tasted it afterwards and don't blame her ! I was able to take her temp and get that down her by myself the first time, if she's supposed to get it twice a day I can't see her volunteering again.
UPDATE 3 9pm : She;s still not eating. Prior to the Ceton she crunched three or four sheep nuts and ate a tiny bit of grain. Nothing since. I've put everything they've ever eaten in front of her. Nothing.
