I am trying very hard to stay out of a problem. I got a phone call yesterday morning asking if I wanted 4 horses....uh no! lol. Hay is hard to come by and very expensive. I have enough for the animals I already have. Then I get a call today (from somebody else) asking (begging) if I would take in 2 horses. They are very thin.....the owner is in jail and the wife doesn't know how to care for them, bla, bla, bla.....excuses. I tried to be simpathetic, but REALLY! Why let them go this long like this....anyways.....I used to take in horses like this and rehabilitate them, it is a lot of work and very tricky. It has just been a long time. This is where my heart is. Everytime I get a call on a horse that needs help, I melt and want to "save" it. Crazy, huh? I do not have pictures but by the way the lady described them they are very very underweight. There is really no flesh left and they are bones.....what to do, I think she should have the vet end their suffering. But is there a chance at saving them? The animal control told her to start feeding grain, .....I told her stop, she will kill them, in a very painful way. She has made them colic them 2x already. I don't even know if their bodies can absorb any nutrients anymore, they are probably shutting down. She is on her way to jail if this continues and should I jump in and get involved? Part of me says yes and the other says no. This makes me so sad and angry. I do understand people get into situations, but I was over there this summer and saw the conditions of the animals then, they were not this bad, but they weren't excellent either. Honestly, I don't think they are feeding them. I was thinking of trading my mare for a gelding they have, but I couldn't let her live there....there was uncertainty.....I am glad I did not trade. She says the 2 get pushed out of the hay. One is a mare and the other is a stallion.....I just can't see a stallion being submissive to geldings. He was in better shape than the geldings over the summer. I think they have 6 or 7 horses over there. Sorry I am all over the place writing this, but I am just floored. and unsure to what to do, if anything. I hope you guys can understand what I am trying to say........ karen
