What a busy week. We just had both our goat deliver this week. One with twins that look identical and a little black one all does. Then my dh and I were talking about selling one of the dexters to get a better milk cow and low and behold the guy we bought them from calls this week and said he was interested in buying one back. I knew my dh and I had talked about it but it was still hard for me to think of selling her. But, then I find a jersey for sale and I would need to sell my dexter to get the jersey. Not only that but I found a lady this week who said she had a milker that had a broken pulsater that she might sell me. She didn't have a pump for it though. Then yesterday a guy had a old barn he was having torn down and he said we could go through and see if their was anything we wanted. Come to find out it was and old milking barn. We found and old milking pump and a couple metal stanchions.
Now for my questions. The cow we are looking at has a blind quarter. What problem might I have with that? I was also wondering why this dairy had so many cows with blind quarters? Is it bad management or is it that most dairy cull the cows with bad quarters and she has chosen not to? Also what are my chances of being able to make this old milking pump work for me? Do the old pump have a way to control the psi as easily as the new ones? Sorry this got so long. Just so many thing falling together so quickly and so many questions.
Thanks,
Jan
Oh yea and this is a registered Jersey around 10 years old with one blind quarter and is breed back to freshen in March. Does $800 sound like a good price for her.
