I was briefly reading the thread on vaccinations and ran across the thought that dairy cattle may have a link to crohn's disease. I just thought I would post what info I have recently ran across...
I met a woman at a youth church camp in late June who had three children from the ages of 17-21. Every single one of her children have crohn's disease. Her middle daughter was in remission, but at camp began to have her symptoms recur. We prayed for her and her family numerous times, and I had a chance to see this disease up close and personal. It isn't pleasant. It is a life sentence, and apparently the sensation is like tiny shards of glass running through your colon.
When I asked if it was contracted by something in their environment, the mother said no, it was a genetic trait passed through DNA.
Later, when I mentioned my jersey milk cow, and my intentions of drinking raw milk, she nearly jumped out of her seat. "That may be how my children caught Crohn's!"
Her daughter quickly ran to my defense and retorted, "No, mom. Remember, the scientists and doctors are now realizing that it is a recessive gene, and that it is something passed from parent to child. That is why they are now testing us for the genetic markers for crohn's."
"Oh, that's right. They have made some medical advances in crohn's research and have ruled out any chance of the dairy cow as the culprit of this disease." The mother remembered.
So, rest easy folks. It ain't the milks fault. Just another attempt to hang America's unhealthy habits or disease on the innocent dairy cow. Poor ole Bessie! (My cow's name)
