This is a question i asked another member but they suggested i post it to see if i can get more info from the group...Thanks Y'all for helpin us out !..Have a blessed week end.
My name is Renee, We live in MO.....i see on your profile that you have Brown Swiss???
We were recently blessed with a beautiful 7 year old we named HANNA and she is due come late march/early april....we are very excited to have her and we want to give her the best care possible...
we do however have reservations on the commercial gmo feeds for dairy...we have a friend who is feeding out 25 pounds a day to her milkers(not brown swiss} and now they are starting to get sick...hummmmm...
I love this site...i find tons of valuable knowledge by very experienced persons.....it's a blessings to have ran across this site.
I would like to know what kind of advice you could give us....
we have found a source for organic dairy feed when she calves ...the thought of Ketosis cares me.....the thought of doing her wrong and NOT giving her what she needs is not something we care to experience.
We do believe in being a good shephard of the things given to us and we care about the more humble paths in life....we try to stay away from the gmo foods ...we are what we eat.
what do you feed your girls?(cows).
How do i begin to switch her from commercial gmo feeds to just grasses and the kind?....what is your suggestion?
I appreciate your reply when you have time...There is NOT a lot of Brown Swiss dairy's around here, mostly Hols...Jersey...beef cattle etc...except for one....they feed strictly commercial feeds tho....that is where we bought her from.....she is very gentle and is used to being around people....we try to spend alot of time with her so she can feel relaxed around us when it comes time to milk her...which we plan to hand milk..she's used to a machine as well..so switching from one to the other may be a problem???..what do you think?
Blessings to you and i pray we can keep in contact so if i need help i can call on your experience.
Shalom:Renee, Ava , MO
