Make your own Aerobic Compost Tea Maker for less than $20
What you will need:
1-5 gallon bucket Free
1-Aquarium pump Single $6.77 or Double $10.52
8 feet tubing $1.99
1 or 2 Bubbler stones $1.64 to $3.62
1 gal paint strainer bag $1.31
1 dowel rod/stick/pipe Free
Long enough to span the top of the bucket
Total Cost $11.71 to $17.44
Connect the tubing to the bubbler stone(s) then connect tubing to the pump
Set the bubble stone(s) in the bottom of the 5 gal bucket.
Fill bucket to about ¾ full with clean water
If you are using chlorinated water plug the pump in and let run for 24 hours before proceeding
Chlorine in the water will kill the microbes you are trying to grow.
Open the paint strainer bag (putting it in a small bucket or can will make filling easier)
Put into the strainer bag:
1 or 2 lbs of well finished compost
¼ cup molasses (wet) or 1 cup dry
¼ cup kelp meal or pellets
1 Tablespoon Sea Salt
1 Tablespoon Good Garden Soil
¼ cup worm castings (optional)
Close up the bag and secure with a twist tie or string.
Suspend the bag from the rod into the water
Let it sit and bubble for 24 hours (longer if desired)
VIOLA Aerobic Compost Tea chock full of beneficial bacteria, fungi, etc to make your plants grow happy.
Remove the bag, Dilute with water (not chlorinated) to the color of weak tea and apply to gardens and pastures with the sprayer of your choice. You can also use a watering can if you are only doing a small area or house plants.
If available add a pint of skim RAW milk per gallon just before application.
The bag and contents can be reused several times if you refresh the non-compost ingredients.
