I am stumped. Cow came fresh. Delivery went great and all is well there. Here is the problem. She had 3 quarters with spider veins. Vet came out today and opened all 3 teats. She has some edema, and I will be getting her tea leaves tomorrow. Her bag is not hot or hard. Front right quarter is milking normally and that is the one the calf is nursing.
The 3 teats that the vet opened are not giving any milk. No strings, no clumps, nothing. After her surgery, I infused with Today. Very little of the medicine went into the teats before it back washed all over my hand. The vet does not think that it is mastitis, but thinks that the quarters are all blocked up further into the bag keeping the milk from flowing properly. He thinks that I should let the 3 quarters dry up and just let her raise her calf.
This is only her second calf. I can't even begin to list all the things that were done to her bag before I got her. She did have bad mastitis in the front left quarter and when she came to me was dry on the whole left side and was still in milk on both right quarters. As far as I know both rear quarters should be good.
My plan of action....Reduce the edema, hot packs and lots of massage, and lots of superior cow cream externally. Will continue to infuse as much Today as I can into each quarter to keep them from becoming infected , and daily antibiotic shot.
I feel like I am missing something........
Right now I am so frazzled that I just want to sit and cry. She is such a wonderful cow and I don't want to miss some thing that I should be doing for her.
Thoughts or ideas.....Is there some thing safe to put in there to gradually soften the blockage so I can work it out? Any thing would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
