I have heard some crazy things when it comes to bites/stings. If one of us does get bit/stung I don't want to waste time trying something that won't work.
Is it true a raw potato poultice will help Brown Recluse, scorpion, Black Widow & many snake bites? I've heard you make a little poultice out of raw potato, apply it over the bite/sting & when it starts turning black (supposedly doesn't take long) you replace it & continue until it stops or you get to a hospital (if needed).
I've also heard a raw onion freshly cut will soothe a scorpion sting if applied fairly quickly.
I KNOW Oreganol will stop a Brown Recluse spider bite. We put a ring around the bite (not on the bite) & nothing traveled outside the small circle around the bite. It did get red, pussy (that's supposed to be puss-y/puss-ee) & was like an infected ant bite but nothing major. It never turned black & the flesh never got gross/eaten away.
Liver- I've been told if a dog gets bite by a poisonous snake you feed it as much raw liver as you can (beef or pork). It will save the dog's life. Is that true? I also heard an old timer did it to himself. He said it worked so well on his dogs that he figured it'd work on himself. I don't know that I could eat raw liver though.
Bee/Wasp/Hornet Stings- a penny minted prior to 1982 taped or bandaided over the sting will make it stop.
I'm sure there are THOUSANDS of odd little remedies out there. I was just curious if y'all have ever experienced these or flat out know they don't work? If you've got other's that work & don't mind sharing I'd love to hear them...

Brown Recluse, Black Widow, Rattlesnake, Coral Snake, Copperhead, Cottonmouths & Scorpions are all common in my area.
