I haven't posted anything in "In Memory Of" and I haven't mentioned this here because it is still painful to us even though it has been 4 months. In January we had to put down our beautiful and loyal German Shepherd, Rowdy. Rowdy was 14 years old and the best dog that my husband and I have ever known in our lives and we are scaring 60! I could spend hours sharing stories with you but they all bring tears to my eyes and I am trying to move on as is the rest of my family. He was old for a GS and he served us well and is truly missed. We really thought we could just skip having another dog. However, the deer are destroying my orchard and garden and every time I hear a coyote I worry because it is calving season at our place. So even though the price of dog food is sky high and my kids are content with horses as pets we really felt like we needed some protection for our livestock and orchard.
I saw an ad on craigslist for anatolian shepherds. Made the phone call back in March but just put it on the back burner because of other immediate projects and I don't know.......thought maybe those deer would just go away....
To make a long story short we drove 2 hours yesterday to go meet our new puppy. He is an Anatolian Shepherd named Gideon. He is 4 months old on May 1st. Born on a farm with a variety of animals and a family with 12 children. Both his parents live and work on this 1,000 acre ranch. They had 13 puppies. There were 6 left. We chose a male (my husband always prefers males ). Brought him home last night. Today he is getting to know us and meet our animals. So far he gets along with everyone except QUEEN GERTIE. She won't let him get close. She shakes her head and chases him. I guess she'll get over it.
Anyway, we did a little research on this breed before we went to see him. Does anyone here have one? He seems real laid back and almost lazy. Then he'll surprise us with a low growl when a cat decides to check out HIS food bowl. I'm sure the cat thought he was asleep, we sure did, he was almost snoring but he knew when that cat moved over to HIS bowl.
I will post pics of our beloved Rowdy and our new Gideon when I can. Our computer crashed weeks ago and I still don't have it all back together yet so not sure if my Photoshop stuff is working.
Just thought I would share about our new addition.
