Hi all!
Lurker for a little while, coming out for help!
Back story:
My partner and I rescued 2 sows in mid to late November. They both had litters in late July/early August and had not been fed properly since, so they were thin and run down. The man caring for them did his best, but like in other areas (I've noticed), he starts something and then lags on it because he's gets busy doing something new.
Anyway, the girls were moved to our farm (and given names - Laverne & Shirley) and pampered, big time. Fresh greens, whole grain bread, grain, milk...and they started looking pretty darn good. REALLY good in Laverne's case. She started developing a belly.
I kept saying "she looks pregnant, is she pregnant?" and was always told she had not been exposed to the boar. However, I know that on a visit soon before we moved the girls, there was a piggy free for all, where pens were escaped from and Rancor (the boar) had quite the little harem with him.
But the man is insistent that Laverne & Shirley stayed put and were NOT in with Rancor.
I feel stupid even asking, but what do you think? (hopefully there are pictures below!) Shirley has not grown a belly like that and they have been penned together and fed together the whole time.
To be safe, Laverne has been moved into her own space, with a creep, fresh bedding and a heat lamp waiting to be fired up.
And if the consensus is yes, how far along? I cannot say exactly when they wold have been with Rancor, as pictures from that day are on a separate laptop with display issues, but I do know we had them at our place by Thanksgiving. This would be her second litter.
Laverne is obviously on the left
Sunning herself.
Shirley, for comparison.
The belly.
