Brought home a 14 month old Brown Swiss that belongs to a friend of mine on Sunday to get Sal bred. He had been on loan to some other neighbors for a couple of months, then came here.
Well, I am here to tell you, his hormones are RAGING..... First thing he did was mount Sal's 3 1/2 month old heifer and just wouldn't leave her alone. I was worried that he was going to hurt her, so I grab my stick and run in there thinking that I'd run her into the calf creep and shut her in with the other calves. He didn't like that idea and took to blowing snot, pawing, head down. Quite frankly, I thought "ohhhhhh S*&T"....... Sure enough, he came after me and I managed to get a few good licks in with the stick before he got too close for the stick to do any good. At that point I got him by the horns and stayed upright for a few more feet, and honestly I don't remember much after that. Tim said that he hooked my shins and threw me into the air. All I really remember is the back of my head hitting the ground so stinking hard. Thank God that Tim was home and out with me as he put on his cape and flew into the pen and distracted "Mr. Man". Apparently he rolled me around some while my feet were stuffed in his chest, then turned his attention to Tim. I got up and wobbled out of the pen. I got lucky.
I hesitated to share this whole thing as it was INCREDIBLY stupid of me to go running in there like that; therefore somewhat embarrassing. In my defense on that aspect of it, I have been around this guy since he was a day old. Hence, why I am posting. I hope that someone will read this and think twice about that "gentle" bull that they are using or raising. I have been around lots of bulls, and I let my guard down. Didn't think about anything except getting my heifer into the creep.
NEVER TRUST A BULL
