Hi all thought you might be thinking of making some bread for the cold months ahead, here is my familys favorite, it is a good way to use your milk and butter and so yummy.I usually make a double batch, 10 loaves lasts us 4 about a week, the first day we usually eat 2 loaves.
I have a nice picture to add but I do not see where to ad it
LIZZIE'S SUNFLOWER FLAX WHOLE WHEAT BREAD
2 tbsp. instant yeast
2 tbsp.white sugar
1 c. warm water
2 c. milk
1/3 c. honey
4 tsp. salt
2 tbsp butter
2 c. milk
2 eggs
1 c. of flax seed (buy in bulk crush in coffee grinder, is cheapest)
1 c. of sunflower seeds (buy in bulk slightly crush in coffee grinder for more flavour)
9 - 10 cups of flour ( 1/2 white and 1/2 whole wheat, I lean more towards whole wheat)
Dissolve yeast and sugar in 1 cup of warm water ( I use quick rise yeast but it works with traditional also). Let stand 10 minutes or until double.
In a saucepan, heat together milk, honey, salt and butter until melted. Mix cold milk and eggs, add yeast mixture, and heated milk mixture together. Add sunflower, flax and 2 cups of flour mix for 3 - 4 mins.
Add remaining flour and knead for 8 - 10 mins. Let rise in a greased bowl in a warm oven for about 30 mins. Punch down and form loaves. Place in pans and let rise in a warm oven for about 30 mins. Bake at 325 F for 30 mins. Should make 4 big or 5 regular loaves.
Note:
before you put loaves in pan roll top in sunflower seeds, flax seeds
fall off and make a mess.
don't have the oven to hot when rising it will flop. (did it)
don't keep loaves in oven when heating oven it will flop.(did it)
