I've been looking for previous posts and my comp. keeps locking up during the search so feel free to give me a link to previous posts....
But I am feeding 3-4 pounds grain to amber and about 5 to Molly. The latest bag smells of a brewery. They do NOT like it, half gets wasted all over. So I stopped at the feed mill where I got it yesterday to find out what was up. They usually love the 16% dairy grain from them.
The mix has alot of distillers grain in it- from the ethanol plants. I don't want that, I want real unprocessed for anything else grain.
I checked with another mill, I was getting a fitting ration from them. but it has pellets. Well that has distillers grain in it also.
So either I go 2 hours to get an organic mix by the 1,000 pounds which maxes out my storage during peak chicken and pig production, so not an option I really want to go with at the moment or I mix my own.
I can likely get Corn, oats and barley which I know many of you feed. I even recall hulled sunflower (BOSS).
What ratios are you using? How many cups of each?
I know it should be cracked corn and likely crimped oats but is it whole barley? I have access to molasses also.
oh and even their mixed horse feed has dist. grain in it. AND the price is rising- grrrr....
I did get them to guarantee my pig feed is not dist. grain. My chicken feed is only fresh grain by my recipe.
So who is mixing their own or can link me to the posts about it?
I'm getting ticked off with my feed mills today.
Thanks.
