Tears flowing as I type....bear with me....tired, frustrated, etc....
Shiloh just calved 2 days ago. Was eating fine, acting fine, etc. This morning, she took off right past me and the stanchion and went off into the weed field and clover field. IT took me and a neighbor 1 1/2 hours to get her. her calf was in the barn the whole time.
Got her back and milked her. She did fine but didn't eat any grain. Noticed some hard spots in a couple of quarters. Massaged the tar out of them., milked out as much as I could, massaged some more, etc. Got about 1 1/2 gallons of colostrum. Filter had some stringy things, no blood. but the milk flowed fine.
Now, she's not eating any grain, and only picking at the alfalfa hay. Ears don't feel cold.
Baby kept escaping so I had to chase hime down 4 times already to add to the mix....
So now I put them both in the barn to be together and hopefully have some quiet alone time. I noticed she would NOT stand still. She keeps shifting on her back legs, almost like she's uneasy. Could this be adrenaline from still getting out today or something more serious?
I don't know what to do. I'm exhausted. I want to give her a big fat B12 shot and maybe a vit C shot. I'm nervous. I've never done one before on a cow, just lots and lots of goats.
I'm scared to put her in the stanchion again.
To add more insult to injury....i left the hobbles on her when i let her out of the stanchion and she has a nice cut on the back of both legs. errrr.......
And....there's a helicopter crop dusting the field across the street at mailbox height courtesy of monsanto....
I apologize for the length of this post.
I could sure use your wisdom,
Marissa
