Have you ever noticed that you can say CALP like yelp! That's what I'm doing and hoping it's all OK - two cows and all.
I have found a Guernsey dairy farm a day's drive away. Becaue milk prices are low and the dairy has all the cows they need for now, they are willing to sell me a Guernsey heifer. Yea! It has taken the brothers a while to agree but in the end they will sell me one that is halter broke. The one brother didn't want to lose a heifer out of their best cow family. She's halter broke because they have shown her. Both grandmothers on both sides have won at the State Fairs. The one grandmother is still placing and she is in her 7th lactation. They are selling her in part because the actual mothers to each of this cows didn't produce in the range they need for profit.
This fellow sounds really nice on the phone and I like to think he likes the idea of her going to be a family cow rahter than have to sell her for beef if she didn't produce in the top levels. Besides, he's getting more for her this way .
She is registered, pregnant, bull bred to a registered Guernsey and should calve in a month. When he gets her TB test (needed to come into UT) and health insp. done, he said he'll ask the vet to give a more accurate due date but he says she starting to make a little bag.
My girls and I leave Friday. We'll stay the night with dear old friends who live within an hour of the dairy, we'll all have a field trip to the dairy head back on Saturday. I'm soo excited!!
