Ok so here is my new problem (always seems to be one ). Anyway, Saturday all was well with Cocoa. Sunday my son went to milk for me and said Cocoa wouldn't come up. It was raining pretty good so I thought that might be part of it as she is still stand offish and DH who normally milks her is out of state. So I told him to give her a bit since it was raining and she is out of her normal routine (dh gone) that maybe she has her nose in a joint and we will get her in an hour or so. So it kept raining hard and neither of us could get her to the barn to be milked. We tried several times and finally I said forget it, let her be miserable and we will get her tonight. Well in the mean time she just layed around and when up was hunching her back. I didn't see her poop any but did pee. Not eating her food or grazing much. She was enough off not herself that it caused us both concern. We left her the day and then tried again in the evening. We got her up and she was not happy!! Normally she will stand like a rock and she would stand still for nothing . She would hardly touch her food, she was drinking normal. She only gave us half of her normal milking. We didn't have any chunks or anything that lead us to think she had mastitis. So now I am concerned that she had what ever the calf had and died with. So I am looking up blackleg as some thought it might be that but all I could find led me to believe that the calf 3-4 weeks was too young for that and for the vaccine. So I don't know for sure. So then I am thinking hardware and have myself pretty sure thats what it is. Call vet this morning and he came at 10:30. I am at work of course so my son had to cover for me. He is 18 so I was comfortable with that. Gave him a list and told him what to tell the vet. Well he called and said the vet said she looked good and didn't think it was hardware but put a magnet in at my request anyhow. Should have done that sooner. He gave my son today and said because her milk looked more watery in one quarter to go ahead and treat her even though she didn't have clumps or stringy milk.
I also need to mention that the bull jumped the cow panel and got in with Cocoa Saturday and my son couldn't get him out till I got home to help. That bad boy can't get to freezer camp soon enough!! We already have an appt. for him just waiting now. Maybe she is just sore from him visiting
Also I do like this vet and he has been right on everytime I have had him out. What should I do??
