Hi everyone,
I am a first time cow owner. I had 3 nubian goats that I milked for over a year when, for various reasons, I decided to make the switch to a dairy cow. It was our origianl intention to get a cow, not goats, so here we are back at square 1
Anyway, we try to do things as naturally and organically as possible. So, my question for all you like-minded folks out there is, What do you consider your most important supplements/treatments/etc. to have on hand in your barn?
Here's what I keep in stock in/for the barn (for the goats, anyway, assuming cows are similar):
Basic H
ACV
Ascorbic Acid (Vit C powder)
Garlic
Grapefruit Seed Extract
Injectable Vit C, B complex, B12
Multi-Vitamin Powder
Probios
Copper Sulfate
Dolomite Calcium
Kelp, baking soda, DE, salt (all free-choice)
Blackstrap Molasses
Calcium/Mag tablets
Calcium Gluconate Solution
Vitamin E
Epsom Salts
Coconut Oil (heard it helps relieve bloat, but also for the anti-fungal/bacterial properties)
Some kind of balm that I make...depends on the need
I'm sure there's more that I am not thinking of.
Do you think it is beneficial to have CMPK, ADE gel, or anything like that on hand? I do have banamine on hand and penicillin...JUST IN CASE! ;D
I am not opposed to conventional medicine, but it would have to be a last resort for me to use it. With my goats, I had great success with only doing natural treatments from the above list. They never had parasite problems or fell ill to anything major. I did have one goat that was put down, but she had sustained a back injury that couldn't be taken care of without major medical intervention (X-ray, ultrasound, surgery). I have to draw the line somewhere! And I do feel at peace knowing that I did all I could do.
Anyway, sorry for the lengthy post. I would appreciate any other ideas for items to sock up on!
Thanks and God Bless,
Marissa
