Hello to all! I am new to the dairy cow world and wouldn’t you know it, I found this site. I actually signed up because I am having many, many, many cow problems. First off my cow nearly died over the winter because she will not eat hay. Secondly, the new cow we just got to replace her needs to be milked with a machine because she has too small of teats for hand milking. The machine milking is where I could also use some help. I am using the surge belly style milker at the present time and really do not like it much at all. My cow is short and the whole under the belly thing is not working well. I thought I needed a claw so I ordered some from online (ebay). The style I got must have been very old because I do not see where I can get parts for it. It is the type that just take the rubber cap, I think. I figured some of you old pros may have some of the answers I am looking for. Oh, and lastly I think my first cow that won’t eat hay has the eating disorder of cribbing. I have recorded her doing this and am going to post it on U-Tube to see if I can get her some help. Otherwise, it’s to the sale barn she goes. She was down for two weeks in December and we had to lift her with a backhoe four times a day until she could stand on her own again. I got her eating by buying hay cubes in a bag and soaking them in warm water. Warm water is another story, she only likes to drink warm water. All winter here in IL I had to haul her warm water from the house or else she just didn’t drink much water??
