For the UGA Spring Dairy Show that is....
We left Dalton at 9 PM on Wednesday and got to Athens at midnight. Checked into a hotel and Sweet Mary stayed in the "bovile home" made by Featherlite. While it was only a 3 hour drive had we tried to make it the next morning going thru Atlanta traffic it could have been a 5 hour ride. So Wednesday nite was the choice.
We spent most of the morning meeting new friends. Hannah met a couple of young girls from UGA who were experienced cattle showers and they took her into the indoor arena and taught her tips on setting her cow up and what the judge would be looking for in different classes. That afternoon we gave her a bath and blow dried her top line.
A very "TIRING" afternoon. Look in the two red chairs and you'll see two little heads of hair. Even Sweet Mary thinks she's worked hard.
Friday morning rolls around and it's show time.
All dressed up but where do we go? Who decided cow people had to wear All white?
They announce that there is going to be a "special" showmanship class for "little tikes" and so Christopher got to show her first. Up till this point he's never led Sweet Mary.
she does pretty good
Takes a little effort to get her to line up. But he made it.
Next class is Hannah's Junior showmanship class. She was with an older boy who did a great job. Hannah did pretty well and was able to answer all the judges questions.
She placed 2nd.
Her next class was Winter calf.
1st place. Wooo hooo!!!!
Followed up by a Junior Championship class.
GRAND CHAMPION - go Sweet Mary....Go Hannah!!!!
Photo with the judge.
She comes back later into a Championship class with two other BS cows who are in milk. The two cows take Grand and Reserve Champions.
Sweet Mary looks at those udders and almost faints. ;D ;D ;D
We had a wonderful time and met several people who were so helpful. It was a great trip and we look forward to more shows this fall. Lord willing.
Have a wonderful and blessed weekend.
Chris
