Even though we have sheep, I am posting this in with the goats, in case any of you have ever seen this before. Thanks for reading!
We have had rain for almost 24 hours. It is cold, it is wet, so of course, the ewes pick today to lamb.
Most are doing fine but one of our smallest ewes is also our best momma but today she delivered three huge ram lambs. The smallest weighed 8 lbs and the biggest just over 9. Now this is VERY unusual. All the other babies born so far this year have been in the normal 6-7 lb range with the smaller being twins. This is only our second set of triplets ever and they are all HUGE for this momma.
One of them is absolutely one of the best lambs we have had on the ground. Big, pretty, vigorous, fast runner already, strong bond with mom (who knew she had three babies and was doing her best to keep up with all three.) But two of them have leg issues.
The best out of the two looks like he has a dislocated hip. The second looks like his back legs are dislocated at the knee. I have never seen anything like either one. I don't know if it was a crowded uterus problem or if they got stepped on by the flock.
I can't afford to get a vet out for two ram lambs that probably won't survive anyway because they did not get colostrum but I want to give them the best shot possible. The one with back leg problems, I don't think will make it the night.
I have given them Clostrix, colostrum paste, Vit B shot, CDT shot, and a tad of banamine as I know they are hurting. They are snuggled down in a dog crate with hay in my dining room. Any thing that can be done for the hip short of surgery? Anyone ever seen anything like this before?
