After milking Polly this morning, she pooped in the stanchion. She only does this if she's been left too long or ran out of hay. Neither was the case this morning.
The poop was a bit runnier than her normal & it had fresh blood with a bit of mucus at the "finish". Normally she poops in the waiting area before coming in to the stanchion. She had pooped only a bit in her waiting area & it also had blood on it. I know it is not from her vulva, as I washed her off & my husband watched her lift her tail to expel gas and more blood & mucus came out of her anus.
She seems active & alert right now. Her diet is alfalfa hay, grass hay, alfalfa pellets, a pint of COB, handful of BOSS, and kelp. The only thing different is she got moved to a new paddock yesterday. My husband is checking the field now, but the owner has kept her land very clean, she used to have her horse there. Both cows have been being moved into new mini paddocks every 2-3 days or so. We have been doing this for a few weeks. Our weather has been rather spring-like & our spring flush will be coming soon.
It's probably been about a year since we wormed with fenbendazole (Safeguard). I do not know if she has a magnet, we got her 2 years ago as a springer. She was AI'd in early October & we think she settled, haven't biotracked & will be testing soon with the milk pregnancy test when it arrives.
I grabbed a sample of the poop & we will take it to our vet for a fecal. I have probios & molasses, so we will try to get some in her.
I searched the posts & most everything about blood in poop refers to calves & scours. So I resorted to an emergency post. We only have a little time to avoid an emergency weekend vet visit with the corresponding cost.
What do ya'll think?
Thank you,
Aloria
