Theresa (TCBO/Cajun Milk Cows) sent me an email and asked me to post this information for you all. She said I could post both her message and the response:
info@vhlgenetics.com
Onderwerp: I would like to test my cows' genetics, please.
I would like to test specifically for the amino acid proline. It is called
the A1 versus the A2 gene in dairy cows. I would like to know if my cows, 2
bulls and 2 cows, Jersey crosses, have proline instead of histidine. Please
tell me if you can test for this, the procedure, the analysis, and the cost.
Thank you for your request. We indeed perform the test for Beta Casein
A1/A2.
The test also detects several other genetic variants which can also be found
in the Beta Casein gene. Therefore, the report describes allele groups which
include a limited number of rare genetic variants which also exist in the
population. We report four variants for samples submitted: A1, A2, A3 and B.
To test your cows, please download a sample submission form from the website
(www.vhlgenetics.com) and send us hairsamples for each individual cow. You
may use one submission form, accompanied with an excel sheet listing the
animal details. If possible, we appreciate a copy of the excel file by
e-mail at submission. Please make sure, that you fill out the sample
submission form completely to prevent any delays in the testing.
The samples can be sent to us at the following visitor's address:
Dr. Van Haeringen Laboratorium BV
Agro Business Park 100
6708 PW Wageningen

Our standard turnaround time for this test is about 10 working days.

Looking forward to any question,
Best regards,
