In my other thread I'd told you about my rescue Jersey. She got here this last Thursday. Anyhow, the farmer I got her from said that she had a calf for him last year. He then had her AI bred, and then put her out with the bull for the rest of the summer. He said he did not see her come into heat the rest of the summer after the AI breeding though. So he figured she'd taken on the AI breeding, which should put her having her calf around May 15.
As of yesterday, she'd been here 3 days. And up to yesterday there was nothing abnormal "back there".
Yesterday, I went out to care for her & there was a thin string of mucus hanging from her. It was mostly clear with a few tiny threads of blood in it. It was about the diameter of a drinking straw and about a foot long. Was there most of the day yesterday & didn't really change, get longer, or anything.
I figured that either she was aborting because of the stress of being hauled here, and the fact that she's soooo thin.
Or, she's coming into heat & not bred at all.
I went out to check on her today a couple of times & there's nothing at all back there. And there's no aborted calf either.
She has no swelling back there, and there was absolutely no discharge at all today. She's eating VERY well and drinking normally. Seems to be in good spirits & not lethargic or in any other way ill.
If you had to guess, do you think it was a fluke & she's is bred and just had a "goopy" day, or is she coming into heat, or is she possibly aborting? Wha'cha think?
Also, if anybody is going to be getting a batch of PG tests, I'd be interested in going in on it with them. They'd have to be the blood test though, since my girl is dry.
Thanks!
