hello'
My cow dexter cow calfed on thrusday, and on saterday she was not her self in the a.m. but was able to stand . By dinner time when I went go feed her I noticed none of her a.m. hay was gone no water drank and even the grain I put out for her was'nt touched . Her nose was dry and when I got her up she couldnt stay up . So I came look here for any info ,Ifound the milk fever info and then cross referenced it in the family cow book and I felt she had milk fever . So I called a vet and told him what was goning on he came very promptly. He gave her the i.v. in the vein as well as injections under the skin. In about 10 minutes after the injections she was up. He leaft me the following instructions . Keep calf off her for the rest of the night and only let her have maby a litter or so of milk. Donot let her drain any quarters for 24 hours. He siad after 36 hrs ( this a.m. at 6:30) the calf could be put back with her full time . ( he also leaft me a seringe and 2 needles and one bottle of theraclcium I belive it's called and said to give to her after 24 hrs (yesterday) when I tried she kicked and moved so that I was scared the needle would break inside her ( he also showed me how to pinch the ski etc) so I called him bak and he siad that I really did'nt have to give her the extra calcium. Just keep it and if she goes down again to give it to her and then call him.) So is is acting like her regular self today/this evening and my question is her ears have not yet gotten back to regular temp i.e. they still fell cold. Is this normal after milk fever?
