Lynette is due to calve in March and is really dropping off in production. She's gone from about 6 gallons a day at her peak to a little less than 2 now. She's always had a very good cream line and sometimes it would take 3-4 filters to strain the milk because the cream would build up. But this week I've used ELEVEN just to strain a gallon! It's driven me NUTS! Then I got this email from a lady who gets milk from me. Is this normal or should I be looking for something?
>>Well, it looks like there are some changes in the cow, that are affecting our little cappuccino machine! We mainly use it in cappuccino’s, since we are supposed to be on a SUPER low carb eating plan. The milk looked different this week and would not froth at all – all 4 jars of it. It also kept getting a weird skin on each capp I made (okay – truth be told I drink several a day – DECAF – to get in as much as I can!) The machine kept clogging and we just thought it was dying.
Decided to grab some regular heat scorched/organic milk at EF today, and made a cappuccino with it on our way to church tonight, and low and behold it frothed normally, and acted like it should. So it is definitely not the machine.
Soooo…..it looks like your pretty baby Lynette is just having some changes in her milk, as she advances in pregnancy! Too funny that it really shows up in HEATING/frothing the milk.
I searched a little bit – and could not find info on that online. But really, what do you Google? Frothing raw milk from cow with advanced pregnancy? Hormonal changes in raw milk pregnant cow? Frothing pregnant cow raw milk. Yeah – sure
It had frothed magnificently all along (that was a huge test for me) and the froth slowed a bit last week, and then NO FROTH and that nasty skin this week. Weird huh!<<
