Hi,
I have an 8 year old black angus cow that I got back in late March. She arrived in great shape, heavy bred, and gave birth within a month of arriving. I think in late April, or early May, she got this little bare spot high up on her left side where the hair was kind of pushed away. I wanted to treat her with an Ivomec pour-on that spring because the man that I bought her from said her did it every spring and fall to his cattle herd, but I couldn't get close enough, she was pretty wild and extremely protective of her calf, and I think she likes men better. Anyway, she has gotten more used to me over the summer and while she was eating her little bit of grain today I felt around that area and she actually stood still and just kept eating. Well, there was hidden in the hair around the bare spot 2 large scab looking things that are about 1 inch long each and about 1/4 inch wide and about 1/4 inch high and they are very bumpy and irregular shaped. My first thought was that I should give her the Ivomec pour-on now, but then I looked at the things that it treats and wasn't sure if what she has could be caused by the cattle grub. We just had our first freezing frost a day or two ago, so I wasn't sure if I was absolutely to late to treat her for the season, in case that is what she has. She is otherwise in okay shape, but has been seeming a bit dull lately, not quite her usual self somehow. I can get a vet out to see her if necessary, just can't afford it right away.
Thanks,
Stephanie
P.s. I had been wanting to thank people here for help in getting my heifer bred earlier in the year. I finally used a young sire in June (her last chance for breeding) and she hasn't come back into heat since! I have learned so much from lurking on this forum and really appreciate you all !
