A while back, I was priviledged to be invited to join Kim Travis on a jaunt over to Louisiana to visit the doyenne of Gulf Coast Sheep, Margret Stretton. Margret is a true font of wisdom and knowledge on many, many fronts, but her chief passion is her flock. Her home is set in a veritable garden of eden, lush as only Louisiana can be lush. Her DH built their intriguing home, and they've filled it with antiques and treasures from all over, not to mention colorful parrots, as well! They have several Louisiana-styled barns which look like fairly standard central aisle barns with shed roofs on both sides, but no walls, so what breezes make it through the jungle can move through the barns. They also have several greenhouses that keep them supplied in fruits and veggies even through Louisiana's infrequent chilly snaps. But pride of place in all this profusion are Margret's beloved sheep. Her pastures are lush, her sheep gorgeous. She has a whole extra house devoted just to her fiber arts. The following photos will give you just a taste of what a treat it is to spend a glorious afternoon with this wonderful lady. I won't even begin to tell you how fabulous her cooking is!

Some of Margret's favorite sheep.

Margret and Kim inspecting a fleece.
Up close and personal with a gorgeous Gulf Coast fleece.
One of Margret's Aladdin's cave-closets full of her jewel-like dyed fleeces.
Magret's room of spinning wheels,
...and her room full of looms!
And, finally...back home in Kim's pasture in Texas with two of her bottle babies! Are they not gorgeous?! ;D
