Building a fortress around my garden so that my chickens and guineas couldn't pick at everything in it left me with too many bugs.
My summer garden was completely obliterated by those vine borers. Last week I planted by zucchini, summer squash and some winter squash for the third and last time. I know I have time to get some summer squash, and I have a good chance of the weather being right for the winter squash, but now I'm concentrating on my fall garden.
Anyway, I was on a gardening forum, and they swore by Thuricide Bacillilus Thuringiensis (BT) for vine borers. I know some of you do everything the natural way and stuff, but I don't know if this is organic enough for you purists. I'm having no luck trying to do it natural, so I'm trying this stuff. Here's their website: www.ghorganics.com/Thuricide%20BTK%20for%20Caterpillars.html
Maybe some of you who do your gardening the organic way can look at the site and let us (or me) know what the pros and cons are of using this stuff.
I also ordered their Liquid Rotenone-pyrethrins spray for the rest of my garden. From the same place: www.ghorganics.com/RotenonePyrethrumInsecticide.html
Again, it's supposed to be natural and organic. Which doesn't always spell out to as safe-as-we-would-like, but I don't know much about that.
I just got my product, but when I first re-sowed stuff last week, I followed up with Eight Insecticide just to get things going while I was waiting for the above products to arrive. So far everything's growing faster and better than it was before.
Just wanted to let people know what I'm doing, since a lot of us are having pest problems.
