Well, maybe a horse and a half. Here's what happened:
Yesterday we went for a trail ride with my farrier. Benny is a lady, and very boisterous, laughs a lot, fun to be around. Anyway it was the first time I took both girls and doubled them up on Candy. Even though I have complete confidence in Candy, (she spent 1.5 years at the Girl Scout camp and was sent home because she was too lazy for the little girls to make her move ) this was the first time that we had ridden double, first time for Sophie - 5 y.o. to go on a big ride. Anyway, I digress.
Everything went great. Sophie doubled with my 10 y.o. then with me. Tight fit.
As we were tacking up, someone said "you hear that, Shawn?" I inquired. And basically, a guy was telling about this lady he knows, said she's 60 something, done with riding and wants to give away her 2 horses. She has a 12 y.o. mare that anybody can ride. When I said I really didn't need 2, he said, oh, the other one is a miniature (which personally, I have no use for) So anyway, he said, Oh, your little one would have a lot of fun with the mini. He said she would want to come see your place and secure a promise that you wouldn't just sell them. (Like there's any money in that anyway ) And she wants them to remain together. In addition, she's giving away 100 bales of brome hay AND her 2 stalls that she purchased for her barn.
Well, right then I figured she wouldn't like my set up because I don't keep my horses stalled, at all. They always have access to the barn, but I'm not a cushy place, it's just wash and wear type animals for me. My girls are easy keepers, they get prairie hay (no brome) rationed, a/k/a diet plan, and no grain. The farrier says they finally look about right.
So anyway, I figured my DH wouldn't be at all interested, so I told them I wasn't interested. Then I ran it by him when we got home and he said "Might not be a bad idea" I told him the hay alone would be worth 3-400 dollars. So today, after mulling it over for a bit, I called Benny back. She said "I was just getting ready to call you and tell you, again, that this would probably be a really good deal for you." She's such an enabler. So she's tracking down the guy that was there to get the phone # of the lady. So, I guess if we like the mare, and we pass the homestudy ;D we'll probably be a couple horses poorer soon. LOL
Oh, well, we had such a blast yesterday, I was so proud of my girls, human and horse alike. And I can for see a lot of fun in the future if we all had horses to ride. I might even get DH interested.
Now, about another saddle.....
